Ever heard of the term “black hat”? Well, for seasoned internet marketers, this is all too familiar. For the benefit of those who don’t know, black hat techniques are “illegal” methods of advertising. These aren’t really prohibited by law but these are the tactics hated by Google and can get your site banned permanently.

Now, several internet marketers actually use this technique in the hope of driving more traffic to a site, ranking high in the search engines or earning more through adsense. Other black hat techniques include link farms, link exchanges and other gimmicks which could artificially inflate your site’s popularity. Google, Yahoo and MSN all forbid the use of these techniques and though Google is getting better at detecting thus fraud, a lot of internet marketers use this technique.

Remember, however, you don’t just need simple backlinks. Your goal is to get quality back links from related sites. Linking with authority sites is a lot better than ordinary links. Also, older links is so much better than new ones. Also, keep in mind that one-way links are ranked higher than reciprocal linking. RSS and Press Releases can cause a bump in the search engines but it still your content which will determine your website’s success. Nevertheless, don’t forget that writing articles are still the best way of getting quality backlinks and enhancing reputation.
